A Colorni-Hirschman International Institute “German-Italian” Scholarship

A Colorni-Hirschman International Institute (AC-HII) announces a scholarship to promote research on Italians in Germany.

The candidate should be a graduate student, preferably of Italian and southern origin, who started – or going to start – a master’s thesis or doctoral project on a research question relating to the social sciences or an interdisciplinary topic focusing on the impact of Italian immigration on German society.

In particular, the research topic should concern the relations between German-Italians and their country of origin, in social, cultural and economic terms. As an example, the research could start from collecting stories of Italian immigration to Germany and to the Berlin area and then investigating the relationships between the host communities and the communities of origin, the linkages between the Italian community and the other immigrant communities, the possible establishment of cultural exchanges, the possibility that such exchanges may favour reciprocal development paths, etc.

In order to be eligible for selection, the candidate must submit an abstract of research project (minimum 500 words, maximum 1.000 words) running over at least ten months with detailed indications of the various stages of the research and the essential bibliography.

The selected candidate will receive a scholarship of 10,000 euro, divided in three tranches.

The fellow will be periodically supervised by Dr. Tommaso Di Nardo on behalf of AC-HII and Prof. Marianne Egger de Campo (HWR Berlin). The fellow will submit to the supervisors for their evaluation a quarterly report on the progress of the research, on the basis of which she or he will receive part of the scholarship.

The institute reserves the right to suspend the fellowship in the event of a negative evaluation of the quarterly stages and following two consecutive negative evaluations to cancel the fellowship.

At the end of the fellowship, the researcher will submit a final research report; in case of positive evaluation, AC-HII will facilitate its publication.

The language of the research and any other activity and output related to the fellowship is English.

Applications should be submitted to colornihirschman@gmail.com and to tommasodinardo@gmail.com no later than Monday 15th of April 2024.
